Inventory financing is business funding used to buy stock ahead of sales, typically secured by that inventory and paid down as it sells. Wrenpeak Lending Group, a small-business funding broker in Lake Charles, Louisiana, explains valuation, liens and repayment for Calcasieu Parish retailers and wholesalers and sends requests to lending partners, which decide and set every rate and term.

How inventory financing works
A partner advances part of the cost of a stock purchase, or sets up a limit you draw on to buy goods. The inventory secures the balance. As you sell, you repay, either on a fixed schedule or as each batch moves. Some arrangements pay the supplier directly; others fund your account and ask for invoices as proof of what was bought.
The partner rarely lends against the full retail value. It looks at what the goods would fetch if they had to be sold quickly, so fast-moving, standard products support more funding than custom, seasonal or perishable lines.
What partners ask about your stock
- Turnover. How many times a year the stock sells through. Slow turns mean the lender's money sits longer.
- Records. A point-of-sale or inventory system that shows quantities, costs and sales by item helps more than an annual count.
- Concentration. Whether a few suppliers or a few product lines make up most of the value.
- Storage. Where goods are kept, how they are insured, and who else has a claim on them.
Partners will also read bank statements and tax returns, as they would for any business funding.
Collateral and UCC filings
Most inventory lenders record a UCC financing statement naming the inventory, and sometimes all business assets, as collateral. That filing is public and tells other lenders the goods are already pledged. If you already have a line of credit with a blanket lien, a second lender may decline to finance the same stock or may need the first lender's agreement. List every existing lien before you apply.
Inventory financing, a line of credit, or working capital?
If you buy stock on a predictable cycle, a revolving business line of credit may serve better: draw to restock, repay as goods sell, draw again. Dedicated inventory financing fits a single large purchase, such as a bulk buy at a discount or a new product line, where the goods themselves justify the funding. General working capital fits when stock is only one part of a wider cash gap. The six options compared sets them side by side.
Retail and wholesale in Calcasieu Parish, LA
Retail trade is the parish's largest sector by establishment count: 778 employer establishments in 2023, with 11,157 paid employees, and 319 of those stores had fewer than five employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). Wholesale trade added 214 employer establishments. Separately, 1,044 retail businesses in the parish operated with no paid employees in 2024 (U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics 2024); being a separate program and year, it stays out of the employer total.
For a small store, buying ahead of demand can tie up more cash than the owner has on hand, which is exactly the gap inventory financing addresses. Our post on financing inventory for a Lake Charles, LA store works through timing and carrying costs, and funding by sector covers retail alongside the other sectors our partners fund.
Paperwork partners may check
Lenders financing stock often confirm that the business is set up properly with the parish and state, because a store selling taxable goods leaves a paper trail. Occupational license and parish sales tax records explains which records partners may ask to see and why names should match across them. Our Lake Charles, LA page has the wider business picture.

- Find out how the balance is repaid: on a schedule, or as each batch sells.
- Confirm what the UCC filing covers: only this inventory, or all business assets.
- Check for audit, inspection or reporting requirements.
- Read what happens if goods are damaged, unsold or returned.
How a request moves explains our role.
